Scenes from the day

I photographed a newborn at the family’s home in Kasugai, Aichi. The baby was awake when we began, then settled to sleep after we adjusted the room, allowing us to preserve both expressions from the same day.
Awake and asleep are both precious
The open-eyed portraits have a direct, curious feeling, while the sleeping images are quiet and soft. Rather than trying to force one state, I followed the baby’s natural transition and photographed what the day offered.
A blue swaddle and a first photograph
The baby wore a blue swaddle and dragon bonnet beside the family’s ultrasound image, connecting the time before birth with the baby now in their arms. Later, we moved to a basket lined with white fur and added a dragon romper and dried baby’s breath flowers.
A session shaped around the baby
Small changes to room temperature and the setup helped the baby relax. Every newborn responds differently, so the schedule and number of variations remain flexible, with comfort and safety always taking priority.
